Application procedure for an internship

The LMA is interested in internships, from 3 to 6 months, for the validation of a Master degree (french Bac+5, engineering schools or Master 2 final year projects). These internships are gratified to € 546,01 per month. Here are the details of formalities.

  1. Agreement in principle between the applicant internship, its higher education institution, placement tutor (member of LMA) and the direction of the LMA on the subject of the course and its duration.
  2. ASSAV Agreement (Application Tracking Internships and Home Visits): Following the ZRR (Restrictive Area Plan) classification of LMA, unauthorized personnel can not enter into the LMA under penalty of criminal sanction, unless prior approval:
    • agreement requested by the LMA,
    • the request must be made at least four months and two weeks before the placement begins.
  3. DIRECCTE Agreement (Regional Directorate for Enterprise, Competition, Labour and Employment):
    • applies only to foreigners outside [CEE + Canada + Algeria]
    • agreement requested by the LMA, as the CNRS internship agreement model
    • detailed curriculum, CV, certificate liability ...
    • the request must be made at least 2 months before the beginning of the course.
  4. VISA:
    • applies only to non-EU foreigners,
    • the request must be made by the applicant for internship at the Embassy of France in his country.
  5. Renting a Home (university or private residence):
    • need the surety of a person resident in France,
    • obtaining the surety is the responsibility of the applicant to the course.

Once acquired point 1, obtaining agreements referred to in points 2 and 3 therefore require a priori at least 6 months, but we can expect a faster response; after the internship agreement can be signed so that if necessary to apply for the visa. The period of visa depends on the embassy.
In conclusion,it is prudent to provide for a period of at least 5 or 6 months for the formalities 2-5.

Application procedure for a PhD thesis

The LMA is interested in PhD thesis supervision (duration 3 years), registering a priori in a research topics of the laboratory. Here are some details of the formalities.

  1. Agreement in principle between the applicant, thesis Director(s) (one of them at least being a member of LMA), the direction of the LMA, the direction of the graduate school concerned by the thesis, and the higher education institution (a priori Aix Marseille University and Ecole Centrale de Marseille) where the student is registered.
  2. Funding
    There are many organizations that finance PhD thesis: Ministry for Higher Education, CNRS, CIFRE, CEA, IRSTEA, DGA ... The choice of an organization for financing depends largely on the thesis subject considered, the possible involvement of an industrial ... In all cases, obtaining funding is essential for the thesis registration.
  3. ASSAV Agreement (Application Tracking Internships and Home Visits): Following the ZRR (Restrictive Area Plan) classification of LMA, unauthorized personnel can not enter into the LMA under penalty of criminal sanction, unless prior approval:
    • agreement requested by the LMA,
    • the request must be made at least four months and two weeks before the PhD begins.
  4. VISA
    • applies only to non-EU foreign
    • the request must be made by the applicant thesis at the Embassy of France in his country.
  5. Renting a Home (university or private residence)
    • need the surety of a person resident in France
    • obtaining the surety is the responsibility of the applicant to the PhD.

Once the points 1 and 2 acquired the agreement referred to in paragraph 3 requires at least 4 months; this agreement allows, if necessary, application for the visa. The period of visa depends on the embassy.

Application procedure for a postdoctoral fellowship

The LMA is interested in recruiting temporary contract postdocs (duration up to 2 years), over a subject a priori matching one of the research themes of the lab. Here are some details of the formalities.

  1. Agreement in principle between the applicant for postdoc, the supervisor of the postdoc and direction of the LMA.
  2. Funding
    There are many agencies to fund a postdoc: contract with a public or private agency, ANR, ... In any case, obtaining funding is essential.
  3. ASSAV Agreement (Application Tracking Internships and Home Visits): Following the ZRR (Restrictive Area Plan) classification of LMA, unauthorized personnel can not enter into the LMA under penalty of criminal sanction, unless prior approval:
    • agreement requested by the LMA,
    • the request must be made at least four months and two weeks before the postdoc begins.
  4. VISA
    • applies only to non-EU foreign
    • the request must be made by the postdoc applicant at the Embassy of France in his country.
  5. Renting a Home (university or private residence)
    • need the surety of a person resident in France
    • obtaining the surety is the responsibility of the postdoc applicant.
